New 2010 Rogue Krom

The following is a press release from Nissan regarding the new 2010 Nissan Rogue Krom edition:
Nissan Adds New Rogue Krōm Edition, Featuring Sporty
Styling, Exclusive 17-Inch Wheels, Sport-Tuned Exhaust
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (Oct. 23, 2009) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today
announced the latest addition to its Krōm specialty vehicles lineup, the 2010 Nissan
Rogue Krōm edition, which is scheduled to go on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide in
December 2009. The new Rogue Krōm edition is designed to offer a unique
dimension to traditional compact sport utility vehicles with its aggressive sport
styling, exclusive 17-inch wheels and a center-exit sport-tuned exhaust. Nissan also
offers a Krōm edition of the popular Nissan cube®.
The limited production Rogue Krōm edition is available in both front-wheel and allwheel
drive configurations and in just three exterior colors – Venom Red, Wicked
Black and Gotham Gray.
Built on the solid foundation of the Rogue S, the Krōm edition adds 17-inch brilliant
finish aluminum-alloy wheels with P225/60R Continental Conti 4x4 Contact tires and
a unique grille embedded in the aggressive front fascia with integrated fog lights. In
the rear, the Rogue Krōm edition includes a boldly styled sport fascia with integrated
center-exit exhaust, a body-colored rear spoiler and rear privacy glass. Bodycolored
power outside mirrors, a Krōm emblem and steering wheel-mounted audio
controls complete the Krōm equipment modifications.
“The new Krōm edition expands Rogue’s already strong appeal, bringing its
unmistakable sporty and active design to buyers seeking to stand out from the crowd
of ordinary compact SUVs,” said Pat Steiner, director, Specialty Vehicles Group, NNA.
“Just as our NISMO models add enhanced performance straight from the factory, the
Krōm lineup offers intriguing, customized design right off the showroom floor.”
Based at NNA headquarters in Franklin, Tenn., the Specialty Vehicles Group was
formed in August 2006 to develop niche derivatives of Nissan vehicles.
“Krōm adds a level of style and appearance, along with a sense of intrigue,
excitement and self-expression. The Krōm name suggests ‘cars with attitude,’ rather
than a literal interpretation of chrome wheels or trim,” added Steiner. “We leverage
our speed and flexibility in bringing exciting new products to market – faster and for
less than ‘mainstream’ models.”

No Shifting? How does that work? CVT Explained:
Have you ever wondered how Nissan CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) works? I found this great video on YouTube showing and animated version of the transmission. Hopefully it helps clarify a few things.
The basic explanation of the transmission is this: First, it has no gears. Instead, it has a belt that runs between two pulleys, offering an infinite gear ratio adjustments. To adjust the ratios, the belt moves up and down each of the two pulleys (similar to the way a bicycle chain moves, but much smoother). The transmission offers better gas milage, faster acceleration and literally NO shift-shock.
Nissan has offered the CVT since 2003 on the Murano. It performed so well in the Murano that in 2007, Nissan added it to the Versa (SL HB Model), Sentra, Altima and Maxima. It is also now available in the Rogue and the Cube.

Nissan to make electric cars in Tenn. with fed help
Nissan Motor Co. will start making electric cars in the United States in 2012 with the help of a $1.6 billion loan provided by the U.S. government to encourage automakers to produce cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles.
Nissan plans to produce electric cars at its Smyrna, Tenn., assembly plant, powered by lithium-ion batteries that will be built at a new facility on the site.
The Japanese automaker plans to start selling electric cars in the United States next year and has lined up partnerships with several state and local governments and utilities to establish charging stations.

Nissan will initially import electric cars from Japan, but expects to have the capacity eventually to make 150,000 electric cars a year in Tennessee, said Dominique Thormann, senior vice president for administration and finance at Nissan North America.
With two assembly plants in the United States, Nissan was eligible to apply to the Department of Energy's $25 billion loan program for manufacturers producing vehicles in the United States.
"This loan ... will help us put high-quality, affordable zero-emissions vehicles on our roads," Thormann said.
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn wants the Renault-Nissan alliance to be a leader in offering zero-emission vehicles. Nissan has not shown the electric car it plans to sell next year but says it will seat five comfortably and run for 100 miles on a single charge.
