Wade Nissan Saved the Day!

I found this on Edmunds.com today:

by Moabite on 12-30-08 (08:51PM)

Pros: Clean, professional, competent, helpful, friendly (maybe they're all Boy Scouts), nice waiting room
Cons: Not a single one in my experience there

Back in August of '08 while visiting St.George, the front wheel drive gearbox on my 2005 Titan began to fail. This really caused me some concern since I was about 2500 miles from my home in Maryland. When I pulled into Stephen Wade Nissan, it was very obvious this was a well run dealership. The place was spotless, the staff was exceptionally helpful, and their master mechanic immediately diagnosed the problem. I was sure I would be spending several extra days in St.George while they waited for a new gearbox to be delivered, so I was astounded when they told me they had one in stock and it would only take about two hours to replace! I had some business I had to attend to and they had a driver deliver me to where I needed to go and then called me about an hour and a half later to tell me my truck was ready to go. When I got back to the dealership, my truck was fixed and they had even washed it! None of this cost me a penny since it was still under warranty. My experience with Stephen Wade Nissan was by far the best of any dealership with whom I've ever dealt over the years. We purchased property while in St.George and hope to move there in 2009 and I can say with certainty that Wade Nissan will have me as a customer for all my car needs.

Rumor mill: Nissan to launch hybrid Z

Quoted from Cartech blog:
by Wayne Cunningham

The 370Z might get extra boost from an electric motor, if the rumors are true.(Credit: Corinne Schulze/CNET)

Rumors running around the Internet suggest that Nissan will offer a hybrid version of its 370Z sports car somewhere around 2012. Currently, Nissan's only hybrid is the Altima sedan, with a power train licensed from Toyota. But Nissan has long promised a car with a hybrid system developed in-house, and showed off a concept car that would use this system, the Essence, at the Geneva auto show. The first production car featuring Nissan's own hybrid system should be based on the Infiniti M45, expected to come out in 2010. Nissan has been working on lithium ion battery development in partnership with NEC.

The 370Z hybrid could be the first hybrid sports car, although Honda has been working on its own CR-Z, which should come out as a sporty but compact hybrid. Even if Honda beats Nissan to the punch, a 370Z hybrid would be more powerful and likely have better handling, if our experience with the 2009 Nissan 370Z is any indication. According to the rumors, the 370Z hybrid would use the same 3.7-liter V-6 as the standard version, but would get extra boost from an electric motor. The car is supposed to also have plug-in capability, and use similar battery technology to that which Nissan is developing for its pure electric vehicle.

Consumer Reports: 2009 Nissan Titan SE 4x4 Crew Cab Is Best American-Made Deal

Quoted from Edmunds.com:

Report: 2009 Nissan Titan SE 4x4 Crew Cab Is Best American-Made Deal
YONKERS, New York — The 2009 Nissan Titan SE 4x4 Crew Cab, with a potential savings of 25 percent below its $33,200 MSRP, is the best American-made car deal at the moment, according to a new study by Consumer Reports. The consumer watchdog issued a list of the Top 40 best American-made car deals in time for the Memorial Day weekend shopping period.

Coming in second is the 2009 Ford Focus SES sedan, with a potential savings of 20 percent below its $17,865 MSRP. The 2009 Ford Focus SES coupe came in third, with a potential savings of 20 percent below its $17,865 MSRP.
Ford had the most models on the list with 10, including the 2009 Ford Mustang GT Premium coupe in the fifth spot. This version of the Mustang has a potential savings of 20 percent below its MSRP of $29,160.
To make the list, a vehicle must have performed well in Consumer Reports' testing, have average or better reliability and good overall safety. "Also factored into the overall analysis were customer rebates and hidden dealer incentives," said Consumer Reports in a statement.
The entire list can be seen at Consumer Reports' Web site.

A Murano CONVERTIBLE?

I found this article on Truck Trend. Sounds crazy to me, but could be quite a cool car if it's done right. Let me know what you think.

2011 Nissan Murano Convertible Will Reportedly Hit Dealers by Summer 2010
May 14, 2009
By Benson Kong

A Nissan Murano convertible made news tickers nearly 9 months ago, but little has been heard about it since that last summer. Reportedly, it is still in the works and is slated for a release by the summer of 2010 as a 2011 model. It will be released in limited numbers and is targeted at empty-nesters who want a fun ride for the grandkids with all the amenities. Similar to the current 370Z, the Murano convertible will use a soft top to keep the weight and cost down.

In addition to the soft top, the 2011 Nissan Murano convertible will use a two-door configuration, and be powered by the current 3.5L V-6 with 265 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is expected to be Nissan's CVT, which will be linked to either front or all-wheel drive.

Use Cruise Control to Increase MPG? It Really Depends on Your Personality

From Cleancartalk.com:

Advices abound about how you can improve your car’s or miles per gallon (MPG) by using the . Essentially by using your car’s , you are telling the car to travel at a constant speed regardless of road conditions. It’s a very nice feature originally offered to allow driving on long trips without getting fatigued.

Here are a few ideas and advices from eZinearticles.com , ecomodder.com and Daily Fuel Economy Tip. There are countless others if you google for them.

By definition, keeps your car at a constant speed. Manufacturers build some “smart” into the system by allowing activation only above a certain speeds, typically around 25-30 miles per hour (mph) for most cars. This means you can’t use in relatively low speed stop and start driving, or in other words, most city driving. The system is not designed for such driving environment.

In city driving where sometime you can get up to 40 mph, I find it’s more of a hassle to put on than it’s worth. This is because, more than likely, you wouldn’t be able to drive at that speed for too long before having to slow down again. So for most city or stop-and-go driving, does not do anything for you in terms of .

really shines when it comes to long trips. That’s what was originally built for anyway. In more environmentally conscious times like now, this little invention can also save you real dollars. If you do it right, that is.

On my many long drives between San Diego and Los Angeles, a very hilly drive along the California coast, the best I get has been with my foot regulating the speed, no . I regularly achieve around 29 mpg in “manual” (foot) mode, while could only squeeze around 25 mpg with the on most of the trip. On the other hand, for the relatively flatter drive from Southern California to Las Vegas, for example, can really show its benefits. For the typical driver I think it will boil down to a combination of 3 things: convenience (long drive with less work on the pedal), (get the best mpg with or without ), and habits (subconscious actions without special awareness). No matter what camp you are from, here’s the reality.
On a given long-distance drive you can encounter a combination of flat, hilly and stop-and-go driving conditions. If you want to arrive with great feelings and no foot/leg fatigue, then go the whole way, except of course during very steep hills and in . If you’re more about getting there with the least fuel consumed, then set for long stretches of flat highway but take more active role to regulate speeds during hilly portions and stop-and-go traffic. Finally if you don’t care, then of course do what you want and just enjoy the trip.

There you have it. It’s really up to each of us to do the right thing, for us and for the environment. Take your pick.
